THE BABY-FARMING CASE.
FORMAL PROCEEDINGS AT MILTON
[Special to the Star.]
MILTON, May 16. Minnie Dean, of Winton, was this morning charged, on the information of Detective M'Grath, with unlawfully murdering Eva Hornsby on or about the 9th iusc. Mr Haulon appeared for the accused. Detective M'Grath said he had to ask for a remand to lnvercargill. The accused was arrested on the 9th and remanded to Milton, as it was thought that the body of the child would be found at Clarendon. The body had since been discovered at Winton, and the inquest had been opened at lnvercargill. He therefore found it necessary to have the case remanded back to lnvercargill.
Mr Haulon offered no objection to the remand.
The Bench said that sufficient reason for the remand was shown, and there being no objection by prisoner's counsel the accused would be remanded to appear at lnvercargill on Thursday next, the 23rd inst. The courthouse was crowded with people, a large number of whom were women. INVERCARGILL, May 16. Charles Dean was charged in the Police Court this morning with the murder of two infants, and remanded on the application of the police till the 23rd inst.
