ALLIED CHILD MURDER.

At Winton yesterday Minnie Dean, wife of Charles Deau, was arrested on a charge of having, on or about the 3rd nut., tnurdered an infant named Eva Horusby. She was brought before the justices and remanded to the lo'th inst. to appear at Milton. The arrest was made by Detectives M'Gralli (of Dunedin) and Herbert. Accused has for several years made a business of keeping infants, and was once before the court on a charge of neglecting several children under her care, but was then acquitted. The police have been keeping watcli on the accused for some time past. It appears that she received the infant supposed to have been made away with from its grandmother at Port Chalmers, and with it a premium of £lO. When Mrs Dean arrived at Itiver.a-gill she did not have the child with her, and the supposition is that she left the train at some station with the child and disposed of it in some way. The body has not yet been found, but the child's clothing was found in the woman's house when she was arrested.
