LAWN TENNIS TOURNAMENT.
The lawn tennis championship tournament was brought to a conclusion at Lancaster Park on Saturday in beautiful weather. The play was exceptionally good. The final round in the Men's Championship Singles bctwren Hooper (Auckland) ana Parker (Wellington) produced some tine tennis. Parker won the opening set by six games to three, but the Aucklander, playing extremely well, won the next three sets and the championship. The following are the details : ' - Men's Championship Singles.—Best of five sets; . advantage sets. Prize, cup. value £lO 10s. Winner to hold the Champion Challenge Cup for one year. FOURTH ROUND. J. R. Hooper (Auckland) beat J. W. H. Wood (Christchurch), 6-2, 6-4, 6-3. FINAL ROUND. J. R Hooper (Auckland) beat H. A. Parker (Wellington , 3-6, 6-1, 5-2, 6-1. Men's Champion Doubles.—Best of five sets. Prizes, value £5 5s each. X SECOND ROUND. P. Marshall (Christchurch) and G. L. H. Marshall (Wanganni) beat J. N. Collins (Christchurch) and H. A. Parker (Wellington), 4-6, 4-6, 6-3, 9-7, 6-4. FINAL ROUND. R. D. Harnian and F. Wilding (Christchurch) beat P. Marshall (Christchurch) and G. L. H. Marshall (Wanganui), 3-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Ladies' Championship Singles.—Best of three sets; no advantage sets. Prizes, value £3 3s each. final round. Miss H. Hitchings (Napier) beat Miss A. Meeson (Christchurch), 6—3, 6—4. Gore, Wellington (owe i 15), beat Mrs Gorton and C. Gorton, Springfield (receive 15J), 6 -4 ; 6-3.
A meeting of representatives from tennis clubs was held, for the purpose of putting the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association on a better footing. Mr S. Hurst-Seager waa appointed hon. secretary, instead of Mr .Jardine (resigned). Messrs Wilding, Burgess, and Mnrray were appointed a committee to draw np a set of rules and submit them to the various centres for approval It was resolved, as a recommendation to the new committee, that in future the Challenge Cop should not be won absolutely by any player. The next tournament was fixed to take place at Wellington, if arrangements can be made for a suitable ground.
