Pout Ciialmeks.—The Council niet last night; present—the Mayor (Mr J. Watson, jun.), Crs J. Watson, sen., Allen, Weir, Inverarity, Murray, Thomson, Pedlow, Button, Mudge, and Dale. An apology from Cr M'lnnes was received, and one month's leave of absence was granted to Cr Chick. Mr Lewis Gillard's name was placed on the burgess roll.—Mr Perry's offer of C 3 a year for the privilege of mowing the grass and grazing a few calves inside the reservoir fence- was referred to the Water Committee to report.—Mrs Colin Campbell forwarded a notice from Mr limes intimating that lie intended taking action against her unless she discontinued Hooding liis property. The writer notified the Council that unless the sewerage which caused the trouble were immediately attended to she would hold the Council responsible. The matter was referred to the Works Committee to report. —lt was resolved Unit the footpath in Harrington street be asphalted as soon as possible.—The following committees were elected:—Finance, Reserves, and Cemetery—Crs Allen, Sutton, M'lnnes, Pedlow ; Works, Fire Brigade, Lighting, and Sanitary Crs Thomson, Watson, sen., Dale, and Inverarity ; Water, Baths, and By-laws—Crs Chick, Sutton, Thomson, and Weir.—The Mayor called the Water Committee's attention to the matter of putting the baths in repair, and suggested that the Finance Committee should keep in view the consolidation scheme.

South Dunedin.—The meeting of Council held last evening was attended by the Mayor (Mr E. Osborne) and Crs Marlow, Fisner, Fiddis, Kane, M'Kay, Smith, Shacklock, Holley, and Thomas.—Mr A. Thomson was granted, an extia water supply for his section in Melbourne street and Anderson Bay road.—The Caversham Council intimated that they agreed to accept the offer of John Ogg to keep the light on the Railway Hotel burning all night for £5 per annum if the Council will agree to the same. —The Caversham Council also wrote stating that the Inspector had visited the locality in Upper Kew from which sewage was flowing, and had decided to warn the owners of the property whence the nuisance arose. Dr Batchelor wrote on the same subject in answer to the inspector's letter warning him of the nuisance on his property, and stated that he (Dr Batchelor) had referred the

matter to the Caversham Council, as the nuisance aroße through faulty drainage in the borough. —Mr John Stevens drew attention to a nuisance created by persons depositing nightsoil on his property on the Bay View road. The Sanitary Committee reported that they had instructed the inspector to visit the place and endeavor to find out the person who was creating the nuisance and take action at once. The inspector had no doubt the offensive matter was being brought from St. Hilda.— The Water Committee reported that they had made arrangements with the Forbury School Committee for a supply of water at £1 5s per annum.—lt was resolved to apply to the City Council for the use of the water supply for scouring the mains.—lt was decided that the matter of the Munoipal Corporations Bill be referred to a committee of the whole Council at a meeting to be held on Wednesday evening. North-east Valley.--Last night's meeting of this Council was attended by the Mayor (Mr Anderson), Crs Russell, Green, M'Gregor, Short, Evans, Calder, Arthur, Scooncs, and Campbell. —Mr Solomon's letter with respect to Mr Barnctt's claim was remitted to a special committee, with power to act.—The finance Committee were requested to report as to Mr Schlotel's claim for the balance of salary, flemand for pay-' nient having been made by Messrs Stout, Mondy, and Sim.—Mr J. Ellis wrote stating that people still buried nightsoil in small sections, and he asked the Conncil to make them comply with the by-law. Tho matter was referred to the General Committee to deal with.—The General Committee were instructed to report, or act if they deemed the matter urgent, with respect tea petition asking that the depositing of rubbish on sections in Calton Extension be prohibited.—The City Corporation wrote concerning the state of the boundary road outside the Town Belt, between the tram terminus and the Pine Hill road, which they had been asked to repair, and stated that if the Valley Council would catry out the necessary repairs and metalling, at a cost of not exceeding £lO, the City Council would contribute one-third of such expenditure. The letter was received. —The Finance Committee's report, which was adopted, recommended the Council to apply for an attachment ordering Mr A. A. Adams to pay the amount of the judgment obtained against the North - east Valley Public Hall Company out of any moneys in his possession belonging to the company.— The Works Committee reported that the boundary road between the Main and Pine Hill roads required repairing badly. The Committee recommended that a clay bank be removed from the Main road footpath, next Mrs Cook's store, and that fifty loads of metal for patching the Main road be procured when the quarry proprietor should have deposited fifty loads of good quarry chips in the worst holes according to promise, the work to commence at the Botanical Gardens. The report was adopted.—lt was decided that tho whole of the Council form the various committees. —The matter of the obstruction of the drain pipes on Mr M'Donald's property, Selwyn, was referred to a committee to report to next meeting of the Works Committee.
