Woodley, the Wanganui trainer, was heard the other day, Mr Brabant, S.Ai., nonsuiting tho plaintiff. A writ his now been issued on Woodley claiming £2UO damages. The caße is to be tried the Wanganui District Court on the 11th inst.

Mr Justice Richmond last week, in the course of hearing an appeal arising out of a betting prosecution, said it was matter for surprise that while the Legislature took steps (o discourage systematic betting it should not at the same time have decreed that disputes connected with racing could not be made the subject of litigation in law courts—cups and plates, equally with bets, ought not to be recoverable at law.
