SHOOTING COMPETITIONS.
A match was fired on Saturday afternoon at the Pelichet Bay range between lean s from the Permanent Artillery and Dunedin Naval Artillery. The match was find under strictly military conditions, and proved very exciting, the Navals winning by I point only. The conditions were : twelve men a side ; seven shots and a sighter at 200 yds (standing), 300 yds (kneeling), and 400 yds (prone), the small inner being used at 200 and 300 yards. At 200 yds the Navals were 10 to the good ; at 300 yds the Artillery reduced this to I point, and both teams scoring the same at 400 yds the match resulted as above stated Gunner Jones (63) and Sergeant-Shephard (58) were the highest scorers for the Artillery, while P.O. Jack and Gunner M'Miilan (62 each) occupied similar positions for the Navals. The Otago Hussars fired their annual match for troop champion belt on Saturday in a dull light, when, with the exception of the winner’s score, only fair shooting was made.
