The fired number of the ' Australasian Army, Navy* and Defence Review and Federal Review,' published in Sydney, has reached us. It has the appearance of being conduoted by men who have a thorough knowledge of the branches of the defence forces about which they write, and as it caters for the forces of the entire Australasian group it should succeed in commanding a large subscribers' list. We direct the attention of our readers to the sale 'of work in connection with St. Martin's Church, North-east Valley. The object is to clear off the debt, which now stands at £4O. The members of tho various guilds in connection with the church have been very busy for the last few months in working up articles for the sale, and many very valuable contributions h&ve been received, so that a good and varied assortment of plain and fancy goods and works efftrtareontne stalls. Mr Thomas Corbett, the well-known agricultural engineer of the Perseverance Ironworks, Shrewsbury, is in town. This is his second tour of the colony, and he is very well pleased with the substantial signs of progress he sees on every hand. Whilst he naturally is anxious to bring under the notice of the farming community the excellencies of the specialties for which tho Perseverance works are renowned, he is taking mental notes of our political, social, and industrial systems, and intends to adapt the knowledge he gains during this trip to local needs, for he has of late taken a deep interest in local government at Home, and is a member of the local County Council. We have to thank Mr Corbett for two brochures, which are excellent specimens of typographical and lithographio skill, in which are set out in the one the advantages of his firm's productions, and in the other is given an interesting account of the " lions " of Mr Corbett's native town.
