The spot was absolutely impassable. Home residents appeared in support of the petition,- and after discussion, on the motion of Cr Haruold, the matter was referred to the Works Committee to report. The Finance Committee reported that the sum of £BO 18s lid had been paid into the bank since last meeting, and that all accounts passed had been paid. The bank overdraft is : General account £591 Gs lOd, credit interest account £35 8s lid, net over : draft £855 17s lid, statutory overdraft £657 Is Gd, balance within statutory overdraft £5Ol 3s 7d. 'Die approach to St. Leonards station is very bad, and requires about two loads of stone to be broken by the surfaceman. The report was approved. Mousinuton. —The monthly meeting was held last evening, when the request of the Mornington Library Committee for half cost of a dividing fence between the strip of land reserved for the use of the library and the other portion of the .section held by Mr John Page was gran ted.—Mrß. Referred to the Works Committee.— The Finance Committee reported that the bank overdraft on May 31 was £S73 4s lOd, and the sinking fund was £97 His 8d in credit. Ado2ited.—The Inspector reported that the wooden box culvert in Mr Smith's property at the foot of Canning and Clyde streets had collapsed, and about 30ft of culvert would need repairing.—On the motion of Cr Hoksmkcii it was resolved—- " That the offer of Mr Dick and Mrs Raphael to contribute the sum of £5 eacli towards fencing the street at the back of their properties be agreed to, and that the Council contribute the sum of £0 to complete the work."—lt was also resolved to take steps to procure assistance for the <-lc:k in the performance of his official duties. He did not believe that the statement made at a meeting of Belleknowes residents to the effect that such a promise had been given was true, for it would involve the expenditure of £SW. Or lloKsiinjwai, in seconding the motion, said lie did not know until now that the people of Belleknowes were dissatisfied. He believed that there were only one or two ratepayers who were aggrieved, and that these had got the others to join with them in a hubbub to get the Council to do more than they were doing. Personally, lie did not believe that any such oiler had been made by one of the Roslyn councillors to any people living on the. borders of the borough. He had more respect for the councillors in Roslyn than to believe such a statement. He did not believe that any respectable councillors would make such an offer. The motion was carried unanimously.—lt was resolved —" That the common seal of the mayor, councillors, anil burgesses, as representing the Corporation of the Borough of Mornington, be now affixed to the grant of drain through Messrs Reynolds and Ure's properties, and that His Worship the Mayor and Cr Horsburgh witness same. 1 '
