AUCKLAND WINTER MEETING. AUCKLAND, June 7. The Auckland Racing Club's winter meeting began to-day. The course was very soft ana heavy. Results : Maipen Steeplechase, of 80 sovs. Two miles and a-half. W.f.a.—Chester 1. Disposed 2, Carronadc 3. Won by a head. Time, 7min 29soe. Dividends, £2 13s and £2 ss. Winter Welter Handicap, of SOsovs. One mile.-Ida (11.5) 1. Lady Belle (10.5) 2, Tulloch (10.12) 3. Won by three lengths. Time, lmin 56jsec. Dividends, £7 and £7 ltis. Hurdle Race, of 250 sovs. Two miles. • Mutiny (9.4) 1, Belmont (10.0) 2, Kaima (9.0) 3. Kulnine, the favorite, fell. Won easily by ten lengths. Dividends, £ll 17s and £ll 19s. A protest has been entered.
The Dunetlin Cycling Club have decided to subscribe the sum of £3 towards the expense of sending a team of New Zealand riders to compete at the Sydney Bicycle Club's sports on September 9.
The Social Refonn League of Nelson Intend to prevent Mayor Trask from taking his seat as a member of the City Licensing Committee, on the ground that he is a salaried official of the City Council, and therefore ineligible under clause 12 of the Licensing Act. . f
