CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
A special meeting held this afternoon was attended by Mr K. Ramsay (vice-chairman), Mr J. Roberts, G.M.6., Messrs J. T. Mackerras, G. Fenwick, T. R, Fisher, J. Allen, H. Rpse, T. W. Kempthorne, T. K. Harty, J. W. Brindley, A. Miohie, M, Fincker, A. Lees, M. Joel, and W. Gow. The Secretary (Mr P. Barr) read the requisition, signed by five members, to consider the working of the Weights and Measures Act as exemplified in the case of Hansen v, Lorie,
A letter was read from Mr Lorie, in which he said that of forty-four scales he had examined only thirteen were correct. It was resolved, after discussion, on the motion of Mr Brindley, seconded by Mr Habty —"That a committee be appointed to inquire into and report to the Chamber in re the Weights and Measures Act.” Messrs E. Michie, J. T. Mackerras, u. Reid, and J, Allen were appointed the committee.
