THE ELGINSHIRE.
Water has got the upper band of the Elginshire refrigerator, and the main engines have stopped. The engineers have consequently come ashore. Nearly 3,000 carcasses, ninety bales of skins, and the ship’s piano were landed last night. The ketch Comet left again at noon for another load. The mutton, which will probably be the last to bo got, is sound. There is a powerful smell from the forward compartments. No information is obtainable as to future dealings. The agents here are waiting a cable from Lloyd’s,
Later. There ia too wuoh sea on, and no more mutton can be got out. The crew will be paid-off this afternoon. An inquiry will be held on Friday, |WELLINGTON, March 15. The Pakeha is going down to take the frozen meat intended for the Elginshire.
