ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
Paul Tnhare, a notable Maoi i chief, and formerly Government Civil Commissioner, has died in Auckland from acute bronchitis. A cab and a dog-cart collided in Princes street south ou Saturday evening. Both vehicles were filled with people. The shaft of the dog cart pierced one of the cab horses in the side, and the animal was so severely injured that it died a few minutes afterwards.
Thomas Merry, employed at the Railway Workshops, South Dunedin, was taken to the hospital this afternoon suffering from an injury to the right foot, caused by a trolly passing over it and crushing three of his toes. Dr Mullin attended to him.
A boy named Gent, aged thirteen years, was drowned in Waihola Lake at half-past five last night. Along with another boy named Duncan, he was in a skiff, when it sank. Duncan got ashore, but Gent could not swim, and he was drowned before assistance could reach him. The body is supposed to be about a hundred yards from the land, in Bft of water. Constable King, of Milton, and a number of volunteers dragged the lake until two o’clock this morning, and again to-day. Gent was residing with his uncle (Mr Applegate), a farmer at Clarendon,
