VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.
The Highland Rifles fired a friendly match on Saturday last against L Battery, Port Chalmers, on the latter’s range. Conditions : Eleven men a side, ten highest to count; five shots and a sighter at 200, 400, and 500 yards. Puzzling winds blew at 200 and 400 yards, and at 500 yards increased to a perfect sou’-weat gale, which, together with the fast approaching darkness, rendered good shooting out of the question. As will be seen from the following scores, the Highlanders managed to secure a victory by 24 points lIIOIILANDBRS.
