THE BENEVOLENT INSTITUTION TRUSTEES.

10 the editor; Sir,— With reference to the meeting ct Eubsciibera to the Benevolent Institution, held yesterday for the purpose of electing two Trustees for the current year, it is evident that these elections will he of a stereo typed character from year to year—no new blood being allowed to enter the Board o' Trustees—as long as the proxy votes of life members, who take little or no interest in the Institution, are available. No doubt this is in accordance with the present law; but being liable to abuse, the sooner it ia amended the better. At yesterday’s meeting Mr C. Allan was returned by the votes of the subscribers present, and would without doubt have been elected had he condescended to bunt up proxies all over the city, as had been done for or by Messrs Haynes and Isaac. These gentlemen handed in seventeen proxies, which of course carried the election in their favor.—l am, etc., A Subscriber. Dunedin, Jannary 15.
