SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

A special meeting last night of the High street Committee, oalled by requisition to ooniider the action of the Committee re the appointment of a head-master, was attended by Messrs H. Mercer (ohairman), W. Haynes, J. Caradus, W. flislop, M. Moss, T. West, and J. flatten. It was decided that the proceedings should be token in committee. On resuming, the following motion was adopted without dissent:—" That the decision of the Committee at the ordinary meeting, held on the 7th of January, to the effect that Mr J. W. Smith be reoommended to the Education Board for the position of head-master of the High street School, be confirmed, and that the clerk be instructed to forward this recommendation to the Board."

The meeting of the North-east Valley Committee held last night was attended by Messrs Myers (chairman), Green, Calder, Schlotel, Sooones, and Arthur. Messrs Andrew M'Kerrow and Isaac Green were nominated for the Education board. Mr James A. Valentine's resignation as third assistant of the school was received, and the secretary was requested to write to Mr Valentine expressing the Committee's appreciation of his services as teacher in the school, and regret at losing the same; also congratulating him upon his promotion, and wishing him sucoesß in the future. The Ravensbourne and Rothesay Committee's meeting was attended by Messrs Barclay (chairman), Ferguson, Harold, Jack, and King. It was decided to nominate the Hon. T. Fergus and Mr Isaac Green for the Education Board.

The monthly meeting of the George street Committee, Leld laßt night, was attended by Messrs W. Simpson (in the chair), S. Maodonald, 0. Haynes, Coghill, and E. C. Anthony. Apologies were received from the Revs. P. W. Jones, A. R. Fitohett, and Mr James Allen for their non-attendance at the breaking-up ceremony. Mr Anthony was appointed delegate to the Swimming Committee. It was decided to nominate Messrs Isaac Green and Henry Clark for the Education Board.
