THE WRECK OF THE FIJI.
The life-saving apparatus reached the Fiji Yesterday morning. Fifteen of the crew landed safely, bat twelve were drowned, The ship broke ap within ten minutes after Captain Viokera got on shore. Among those drowned are Brisbane (the first officer), Lardman (the third officer), and Farter (an apprentice). The rest are seamen, whose names have not been obtained. One man named Wilkinson swam back to the wreck to assist bin mate, and died of exhaustion on board. [Pkb Press Association.] MELBOURNE, September 8. (Received September 8,1891, at 11 a.m.j Wilkinson, who was drowned at the wreck of the Fiji, did not belong to the vessel) as was first reported, but was a local resident assisting iu the rescue work, Much valuable time in getting the life* saving apparatus to the scene of the wreck was lost through telegraphic interruption. Full details of the disaster have not yet been received.
