AUCKLAND, September 8, At the Supreme Court to-day the jury brought in a verdict of not guilty against William M'Douald for setting fire to the dwelling-house of David Ward Taylor, on the ground that accused was a lunatic from the time of the committal of the offence. His Honor then ordered that prisoner be kept in strict custody in Auckland prison during the pleasure of the Colonial Secretary. Mary Rambling, aged seventy-seven years, died suddenly night at Waiuku in consequence of breaking a blood vessel. WELLINGTON, September 8. Mr Jacob Frankel, a dealer in secondhand goods, when near his residence in Bowen street, was attacked last night by two men, who robbed him of 25s and several papers. A purse containing a fair sum of money was missed by the robbers. Mr Frankel, who is over seventy years of age, was rather roughly handled.
