THE RIFLE ASSOCIAT.ION.
Major Soramerville and Lieutenant Foster, of the New Zealand Rifle Association, inspected the sites offered in the Upper Hutt district, Wellington, for a permanent range for the Association yesterday. One at Silverstream, which can be had on most reasonable terms, was found to be suitable; but as the 200 yards crosses a swamp, andthe removal of some timber is necessary, it is estimated that it will coat L 250 to put the range in order, exclusive of buildings. If the Government are prepared to come to the assistance of the Association in defraying the cost this site will be chosen.. In the event of their not doing so Major Sommerville is of opinion peripatetic meetings will have to be resorted to, in which oase the next annual competition would probably be held In Auckland. A site at Miramar is to be inspected to-day.
