THE RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
A deputation from the New Zealand Rifle Association, consisting of Majors Sommer-Ville-and Donald and Captain Griffiths, accompanied by local M.H.R.S, waited on the Defence Minister at Wellington last evening for the purpose of ascertaining what assistance might be expeeted in obtaining and preparing a permanent rifle range in Wel> lington for the annual gatherings of the Association, and the use of war ships frequenting the colony. The Defence Minister relied that he was fully of opinion that if a colonial rifle ranee was to be established it should be near Wellington, as being the most central. He was, however, not in a position to make any direct promise of pecuniary assistance, owing to each a large amount having t6 be taken from the volunteer vote for the purchase d the Fell Hill Gully range, bat as the question waa of importance, he would bring it before the Cabinet. The question of ammunition waa raised, and Mr Seddon expressed himself as being willing to do all be could for volunteers, and said ho was arranging for kp bfllicrcd would becheaper thin the present.
