The refusal of the foreign admirals to surrender refugees caused great indignation among the victors. The Chilian cruiser President Pinto has left Kiel. SURREN DErToF~COQUIMBO. SHOCKING EXCESSES. VALPARAISO, September 2. (Received September 8, 1891, at 10.25 a.m.) Coquimbo has surrendered to the Congressional party. Fearful scenes of riot and violence have occurred at Concepcion and Coronal. The latter place was sacked by the mob, who indulged in excesses of the worst kind. Women were abused under circumstances of revolting brutality. German war ships are now protecting the place. At Taloabuano the troops revolted, and were joined by 4,000 miners. The men shot all their officers and sacked the town.
There is a violent feeling against Mr Egan, the American Minister, who ia accused of harboring refngee officials in American war ships. Order has been restored in Santiago. A German cruiser, with Don Claudio Vicuna, who was to have succeeded Balmaoeda, and many other officials and refugees, has gone north, and will, it is believed, land them at Callao. It has been found impossible to bury those killed in Friday’s battle, and the bodies will be cremated. NEW STORK, September 2. Rumor has found publicity here that Balmaceda, while fleeing from Santiago, enraged at (he slowness of the muleteer, struck him, and was shot dead by the man. The rumor, however, has not been confirmed. PARIS, September 2. Ex-President Balmaceda has wired to bis friends in this city that he Is coming to Europe. [Special to Press Association,] NEW YORK, September 2. (Received September S. 1891, at 10.16 a m.) The ‘Herald’s’ special from Chili says that Balmaceda was at Talcahnano when he learned the final defeat of bis army, and immediately disbanded the troops he had with him. The farmers are begging the oonrts to issue an injunction to restrain the banks from paying Balmaceda’s bonds. Another report received from Chili la that Balmaceda was overtaken and shot, bat it is not yet confirmed. LONDON, September 2, The passengers who arrived from Chili by the Aoonoagna at Plymouth were overjoyed at hearing of the defeat of Balmaceda, whom they denounced as a bloodthirsty villain. They at once rebooked their passages to Chili.
