The matter was adjourned for a week to enable the Bench to obtain legal advice. What a farce * Hansard ' is. The House has been in session nearly three weeks, and the first number of that entertaining publication is not yet to hand. You see it takes hon. members so long to lick their speeches into the ehape they want them to present before they can be acceptable to the constituencies !

The difficulty that occurred at the last meeting of the Outram Licer.siog Committee in respect to the Deep Stream Hotel has disappeared, the Official Assignee having, it seems, previously parted with the license. The Commute?, however, adhered to their determination only to grant an accommodation license.

The apparatus Is of simple ooastruction, and 1b evidently very easy of management. It consists of two small plates attached to either end of the swing bar, and these are operated from the buggy by means of a handle in such a way as to cause them to becoma detached in case of the horses running away, or of an accident impending. At the end of the pole is a contrivance which allows of the liberation of the horses when the traces are freed; and, in the case of a single buggy, the breeching is adjusted In such a way aa to slip, on the handle before referred to being operated. At the trial this afternoon the object aimed at was safely accomplished, the animals being detaohed without trouble, and there appears no reason why the invention should not be as effective in actual cue of emergency.
