(Pro United Pbess Ajssooiawiok.J ABHBURTON, Jwnb 1. A largely attended meeting of county ratepayers, to oonsider the irrigation question, was held on Saturday, when the following resolutions were carried unanimously : "That this meeting having had plaoed before them the several reports of the county engineer on the question of the irrigation of the Ashburton-Rakaia Plains, desire to express their opinion that a system of irrigation is desirable." " That the necessary steps be taken to define an irrigation district to give effect to the foregoing resolu-' tion."
