UNIVERSITY OF NEW ZEALAND.

A special session of the University Senate was held in Dunedin on Saturday. There were present Sir J. Hector (Chancellor, in tiie chair), Dr Shand, Rev. Dr Salmond, Dr Scott, and Professor J. M. Brown. The Chancellor stated that the business of the session was, as ordered by the Senate at the late annual sesaion—(l) Consideration of the reports of the examiners in England for the examinations of November, 1890; (2) conferring of degrees, senior scholarships, and honor 3; (3) adoption of the annual report of the University to His Excellency the Governor; (4) consideration of the report of the examiners on the special medical examination. The Chancellor also stated that he would ask the Senate at this meeting to elect a member of the Board of Governors of the Auckland College and Grammar School, a matter which had been overlooked at the time of the annual session. The Senate resolved itself into committee for the consideration of the examiners' reports for November. IS9O. On resuming, the Chancellor brought up the following report of the Committee of the whole : The Committee recommend : 1. That the degree of Master of Arts be conferred on the following :
