SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

Gkoboi street. —The first meeting otflu newly-appointed Committee for the George street School was held last night, and attended by Messrs Haynes, Simpson, Jago, Anthony, Coghill, and M'ponald. Mr Simpson was appointed chairman of tbs Committee, on the motion of Mr M‘Dooald| seconded by Mr Coghill; and, on the motion of Mr Haynes, Mr Anthony was reappointed clerk and treasurer. The resignation of Ur George A- Smith as first assistant was IsM on the table. The resignation was received with regret, and with expressions of high appreciation of the valuable services rendered to the school by Mr Smith. The Visiting Committee for the ensuing three months will be: For May, Messrs Coghill and Anthony; for Jane, Messrs M'Donald snd Jago; for Jnly, Messrs Haynes and Smith. The Committee will meet on the second Monday in each month. Messrs Simpson and Anthony were appointed delegates to the Schools’ Conference. Union street. —The meeting was attended by Messrs Swan, John Duthie, G. C. Israel, M. Cohen, and Gillies. It was moved by Mr Cohen, seconded by Mr Duthie, and agreed to, that Mr J. L. 6ulios be chairman of the Committee for the ensuing year. In taking the chair Mr Girlies expressed the hope that the members of the Committee would quietly __ bury the hatchet and unite for the best interests ox the school and for the education of the young of the district. That was the only object he had in taking any active interest in connection with the school. On roe motion of Mr Swan it was agreed that Mr Israel should be secretary, and on Mr Cohen’s motion Mr Duthie was appointed treasurer. The meetings o€ the Committee were fixed for the first Tuesday in each month at 7.30 p.m. High street. —Present; Messrs Meroer (chairman), West, Caradus, Moss, Hatton, Haynes, and Hislop. Mr Mercer was reelected chairman for the ensuing year, Mr West treasurer, and Mr Hislop secretary. Messrs Haynes and Caiadns were constituted the Works Committee, and Messrs Haynes and Moss the Visiting Committee. Burt, P. M‘Gregor, B. Isaac, A. Sligo, A. Bain, H. Crawford, and R. Mason. Mr Bain proposed, and Mr Mason seconded, that Mr B. Isaac be elected as chairman for the ensuing year. Mr Crawford proposed, and Mr Sligo seconded, Mr P. M‘Gregor. The voting resulted in tha election of Mr M‘Gregor, who received four votes to Mr Isaac’s three. Mr R. Mason was appointed secretary, and Mr A. Bart treasurer, Messrs Burt and Crawford were appointed the Visiting Committee for May, Messrs Isaac, Bain, and the chairman were appointed the Works Committee for the ensning twelve months, and authorised to devise the best means of constructing a concert hall in connection with the school. The head-master reported that the average attendance for the past week was as follows: —B ys, 322; girls, 260; total, 582. The number on the register was: Boys, 364; girls, 305; total, 607. Owing to the tad weather prevailing of late, there was a falling off in the attendance. It was decided to send round a circular to the parents and guardians of the children applying _ for monetary assistance to enable the Committee to provide fires in the different rooms daring the winter.

Ravensbourne. —Mr Barclay was elected chairman of the Committee, Mr David Ferguson treasurer, and Mr Robert Jack secretary. Albany street. —All the members of Committee attended —viz., Messrs Barnett, Allen, Maitland, Fredric, Canter, Toomey, and Shepherd. Mr Barnett was re-elected chairman, and Mr Shepherd was appointed secretary. The following appointments were also made: —Treasurer of committee and of the savings bank, Mr Fredric ; secretary of bank, Mr T. A. Maitland; trustees of bank—Messrs Ferguson (head-master), Barnett, and Allen ; delegates to the Conference—Messrs Barnett and Allen; Visiting Committee Messrs Barnett, Allen, Shepherd, and Toomey ; Works Committee— Messrs Canter, Maitland, and Fredric. The thanks of the Committee were formally passed to Messrs M'Lean, Newman, and Eggers for the services they had rendered the school daring their period of was decided that the meetings of Committee should be held on the first Friday of each month.

Kaikobai. —The meeting was attended by Messrs Carlton, Duncan, Ferry, Harlow, Mitchell, Scott, and Stout. Mr Duncan was unanimously appointed chairman of the Committee for the ensuing year and Mr Carlton clerk and treasurer. Several matters in connection with the buildings and the schoolrooms were referred to the Visiting Committee, with power to act. Messrs Carlton and Ferry were appointed Visiting Committee for the month. It was resolved that all persons using the hall make application for renewal of arrangements; that the engagement of Mr Doff as janitor be renewed on the same terms as with the preceding Committee; and that the Com* mittee meet on the second Tuesday evening of each month at 8 o’clock, the next meeting to be on the 9th June. Cavkrsham. —All the members of Committee were present. Mr Rutherford was unanimously appointed chairman for the current year. The appointment of clerk was deferred, Mr Milne agreeing to act till next meeting. The ordinary meetings were fixed for the first Friday of each month. Messrs Grave and Sidey, Craig and Tennant, and Frye and Slater were appointed as visiting committees for a month in the order stated. The chairman and Mr Slater ware appointed as delegates to the Dnnedln and Suburban School Committees’ Conference. It was resolved to grant good attendance certificates as in previous years. It was resolved that the compulsory classes of the Education Act be brought into force. The chairman was authorised to get a new school bell, and to interview the Education Board with the view of getting a belfry erected on the hnilding.

Kensington. —Mr James Shiel was elected chairman, and Mr Julins Fell clerk.

Maoakdbew Road.— The meeting was attended by Messrs Rennie, Clark, Leyland, Dodds, Battson, Scott, and Reeves. Mr W. E. Spencer wrote thanking the late Com* mittee for their ‘expressions of goodwill towards him. Mr A. Rennie was elected chairman, Mr Battson secretary, and Mr Reeves treasurer, Messrs Leyland and Clark Works Committee, and the chairman, secretary, and treasurer Visiting Committee for ensuing year. Mornington,— The Committee elected Mr Horsbargh their chairman for the current year. St. Leonards.— The first meeting of this Committee was held last night, and attended by Messrs Aston, Bain, Fitzpatrick, Hardle, Buchanan, and Reid. Mr Murray Aston was elected chairman, and Mr G, Buchanan secretary and treasurer.
