POLITICAL NOTES.
The Hon. T. W. Hislop's resignation as Minister for Education will probably take effect as from January 1. The Premier left Wellington for New Plymouth this morning on private business, and will be away abont a week. No steps have yet been taken re the Federal Convention. At present it seems as though New Zealand will not be represented.
The Minister for Lands, accompanied by Messrs 0. Samuel and E. Smith, M.H.R.", have gone to Urenni to inspect the spot where coal is said to have been discovered. The party then go on to Mimi, where a road has been commenced to connect with the Auckland Railway.
