JUBILEE CONVALESCENT FUND.

The annual meeting of the subscribers to the Queen's Jubilee Convalescent Fund was held in the Y.Wf.CA. Rooms yesterday afternoon, when Mrs Bymock was voted to the ohair, and there were about a dozen ladies present. The secretary (Mrs Downie Stewart) read the report, which was to the following effect:— Since our laet annual meeting, which was held on Ootober 80, 1889, we have sent to the country, for reat and change of air, Ave convalescent patients. Three of these went to Waikouaitl, for three and four v eeks, ooaording to the time considered necessary. Their railway [ares were also paid. One patient was sent to Broad Bay, and one to Waimate. This last was a young girl who went to stay with friends there, so that her fare by rail was all that was required from the fund. In every case, those wishing assistance have been visited by a member of the Committee, so that each case has been thoroughly investigated before help has been given. This fund is intended for women only, and for those who are not hospital patients, or, if they have been in the hospital, must have been out of it six months before they can get any assistance from the Convalescent fund. The Committee very muoh regret the loss they have sustained by the removal of Mrs Oliver, their president, to England. Mrs Oliver took a great interest in the convalescent fund, and also an active part in ail its work since it was started!; she was able to assist the Committee greatly by her advice, hiving been engaged in similar work in London. Mrs A. W. Mor.ls also left us during the year, having gone on a visit to England. She was much

missed, as ehe took a deep interest iu Investigating any cases oommitted to her. Before she left sbe handed the treasurer LlO towards the funds, the result of a raffle got up by her. Mrs Burns, another of oar oommittee, left us, having; gone to Yiotoria. From this, as may be supposed, we hare' been short-handed for some time. However, it is only Mr to state that those who have remained with us have attended the meetlDgs Well, and done their work In a satisfactory manner. We have received a donation of 6s from Mrs M'MUlan, Waikouaiti, and we have to thank her for her kindness, on more than one occasion, in allowing patients to remain with her longer than the allotted time without making any charge for the same. We have also received 10s from one who was helped from the fund in 1888.

The Treasurer (Mrs Woodhouae) then read a statement of receipts and expenditure for the year ending October 25, 1890, which was as follows :—To balance in bank, L 36 4s 4d ; to subscriptions, LlO 15s; to cheque not presented, LI; total, L 47 19a 4d; to account overdrawn, LI 2a 8d; total, L 49 2s. By cheques for patients, Ll3 17s ; by fixed deposit acoount, L355s ; total, L 49 2s. The total fixed deposit acoount amounted to L 482 4s. Mrs Colquhoun, in moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet said, in reference to the overdraft, that Bhe might state that in the anxiety to raise the fixed deposit aecount to LSOO, the interest was transferred to the fixed deposit, which left them so short that there was an overdraft. Of course next year this would not happen, The following office-bearers for the ensuing year were elected :—President, Mrs Colquhoun ; honorary secretary, Mrs Duwnio Stewart; treasurer, Mrs Woodhouse. Committee : Mesdames D. Ross, \V. Dymock, Martin, Carew, Webster, and Miss Bodley.
