SPORTING INTELLIGENCE.
The Wellington Steeplechase meeting has been postponed till Monday, owing to the wet weather. The Dunedin hounds started for the Taieri this morning to hunt, but it was decided to turn back on account of the unpromising state of the weather. This is the fourth time that the meet at Mosgiel has been postponed, owing to unfavorable weather. Butlpr's cast-off Eepoao (Apremont— Hammock) won the Orient Handicap of six furlongs at Rosehill (N.SVV.), beating a field of seventeen, and winning with remarkable ease. At the same meeting Recruit (lOat) won the Steeplechase, beating five others. A further telegram to the ' LytteltoD Times' Bays that Peter Osbeck's death was due to banting an artery after a strong gallop.
