CITY POLICE COURT. (Before Messrs Colin Allan, J. Elmer' and T. M. Wilkinson, J.P.s.) Drunks.—A first offender, charged with drunkenness, was cautioned and discharged. James O'Donnell, for being drunk and disorderly, was fined 10s, with tho alternative of forty-eight hours in gaol. John Davics, for a Bimilar offence, was fined LI, with the alternative of a week's hard labor. FoaoußY.— James Holmes waß charged with forging and uttering a promissory note for L4O at Christchurch. Chief-detective Henderson asked for a remand till Friday, which was granted. The Rothschilds will continue their financial support to the new Government of Brazil. Miss Amelia B. Edwards says the earliest Egyptian paintings antedate the Christian era by 3,000 years.
