William E. Grice, a lad, was drowned while bathing in the river at Gisborne on Saturday. Mr H. B. Vogel, eldest son of the exTreasurer, met with a curious accident while playing lawn tennis at Wellington on Saturday afternoon. He fell over a net, but felt no injury until the evening, when he discovered that he had broken a rib. In a frjsecution at Auckland last week against the vendors of adulterated pepper, Dr Giles, R M., ruled that it was not necea sary for the prosecution to show that the defendants knew that the article was adulterated.
