HOME RULE.

TO THE EDITOR. True patriots a 1; Ami be it understood, Colonia' ata e9aien Can, for Ireland's jjood, Solve the problem of Home Rule. Sir,— The Mother Country has learnt much from her children the coloniesnotably vole by ballot and private executions. In the fiiture she will also copy from us local option, with free, secular, and computeory education. Can we formulate an Irish Home Rule policy? Would it bo Utopian to suggest Sir George Grey, with Sir Robert Stout, should stand for the Imperial Parliament (their election would be certain), and advocate provincial councils the same as we once enjoyed for New Zealand ? Our local Parliament could vote the necessary expense, and in return what a colonisation advantage would be reaped. Their local parliaments could deal with tenant leases, improvements of waste lands i in fact, exactly on all - fours with ourselves postal, Customs,, police, defence, etc., to ha left to the Imperial Parliament. England, like Otago, should be prepared to be the milch cow for the whole. Each provincial district to have borrowing power, and receive pro rata on population Customs revenue levied. What kudos New Zealand would receive, and the names of her statesmen be handed down to posterity for canonisation, were she able to solve (if the intention is real) this interminable problem !—I am, etc , Lumi>er. Dunedin, January 14. P;S. One is sure the colony would willingly spare the services of the statesmen named. r
