Caversham.—Thursday's meeting of this Council was attended by the Mayor, Crs Kirby, Bridgman, Coverlid, Stevenson, Hancook, Baverstock, M'Gonigal, Roberts, and Wilson.—Permission was granted to make two connections with the Cargill road sewer, at the cost of the Government, subject to the inspector's supervision.—A letter from the Railway Department in which it was stated that certain closets on the railway premises were emptied in the usual way, and were not connected with the drains as alleged, was ordered to stand over till next meeting.—Mr G. Ricketts's request that the footpath on the south side of View street be tarred and sanded afresh was referred to the inspector to report. Messrs T. J. Walker, A. L. Isaacs, and A. G. Fenwick wrote re the channel in Albert street. The clerk stated that the inspector had not yet had time to overtake this work.—The Caversham Fire Brigade asked the Council to pas 3 the promised amount ot Lls towards the uniforms, and also that the daymen be allowed to clean the hose after monthly practice and after fires, as the firemen were at work during the day. The question of the LIS was postponed for a fortnight, the clerk to inquire what the money was required for. The other request was granted.—A letter was read from Mr J. Barron, M.H.R., in which he complained that the contractor for the removal of nightsoil was neglecting his duty, and the writer threatened to hold the Council liable if any illness arose over the matter. The clerk stated that Mr Barron had urgently requested that the letter be read iu open council, and not referred to the Sanitary Committee. After discussion this was done, and the letter was then referred to the Sanitary Committee.— The Drainage, Water, and Sanitary Committee reported having considered a complaint made by Mr J. M. Lomas regarding the state of the ditch adjoining his property in Darley, and having instructed the inspector to clean the same.—The Finance Committee reported that since last meeting the sum of L 230 6s lOd had been lodged in the bank. They reported that accounts as follows had been passed for payment:— General accounts, Lii 5s Id ; water supply, L 5 14s. These were passed on the 23rd ult., and on the 9th inst. they had passed for general accounts L3l 19s 6d, and water supply account L6.—The Works and Baths Committee reported having considered the petition re alteration of the hours for ladies bathing at St. Clair Baths. They were of opinion that it would be a breach of faith with the bathkeeper to alter the hours. The Committee suggested that the ladies be recommended to form themselves into a committee for the purpose of procuring subscriptions to provide a women's bath at St. Clair. The Committee had considered Mr Sidey's letter, and had instructed the clerk to inform him that the Council would form a footpath to his property, clean the water channels, and metal the upper part of the Corstorphine road, provided he would clear the gorse off the road to the junction. They had considered a letter from Mr David Keys complaining of the impertinent and offensive manner of the bathkeeper at St. Clair. They had asked Mr Anscombe to send an explanation to the Council. They had postponed the question of the footpath on the Forbury road till next meeting.—lt was resolved—" That from this date and until other instructions are given the manager of the Bank of Australasia, Dunedin, be requested to pay the debentures and coupons for interest on the L 2.500 loan when they are payable, and charge the same to No. 4 account"; and "That the inspector report to next meeting of the Council the cost of filling in and laying pipe 3 in the Forbury road from the Darley Hotel to Cargill road."
