RACING ETHICS.
TO THE editor.
Sir, —I, with others, when at the Taieri Races, invested my money on a horse called Barney, which won the Trot Race. A protest was lodged, and sustained by the Taieri Jockey Club, on account of the horse running under another name. I made up my mind to lose the money and say no more about it. I afterwards attended the Maori Kaik races, and invested [L2 on Vanguard, which won easily, and to my disgust a protest was lodged against him in the Maiden Race. The money has not been paid, and, 1 hear, is not likely to be paid, at any rate for some time.
Sir, this kind of thing must be stopped. If a protest is to be made, let it be lodged and considered before the race, and not after the horse has won. It is most unfair for investors, and should not be tolerated. I should be glad if you would kindly consider and advise some means whereby this objectionable practice cun be removed.—l am, etc., 0 r ox. Dunedin, January 15.
