This firm have for some six years carried on business in Sydney, and having met with much success, they have Opened a Branch at the above address. The firm claim to produce a light that equals gas, and at a less cost. The light is produced by means cf a lamp, the reservoir of which is supplied with gas oil, which burns with a clearness and evenness that are guarantees of its merit. The supply is regulated from one to twenty-four candle power by means of the burner, which is of the simplest construction imaginable. The main features in these gas oil lamps are: no wick, no trimming, no glasses, and freedom from the usual troubles arising from other lamps The oil is virtually a gas and can bo supplied at the rate of 4s 6d per gallon, 5s worth of which equals 1,000 feet of lighting' power. One remarkable fact in connection with the oil is that it does not burn wood or other material if accidentally set fire to, but blazes for afe n seconds and volatilises. It is a powerful purifier, and is also said to be a valuable food preserver. The utility of these lamps, which can be supplied in qualities from the stable to the drawing room, are well suited for railway platforms, hotels, etc., giving a brilliant light, which is a great desideratum in country districts ; added to these traits, the lamp whilst lighted can bo carried about with impunity, With each lamp instructions aresent, and if these are fully attended to, there is no possible fear of danger. The firm purpose when fully in working order to provide carriages, cabs, and other vehicles with their lamps. As a recommendation, it may be mentioned that his Excellency Lord Carrington, the Governor of New South Wales, uses the oil that generates the gas in his carriage lamps, and finds it gives every satisfaction. The New Zealand Insurance Company are prepared to insure the property of any persons in the colonies using these lamps.
