The following is the result of the race run at Kempton Park to-day for the
ROYAL STAKES, of 10,000 83V8 ; second horse 500 Bovs, and the nominator of the winner 600 sovs out of the stakes. Three-year-olds, Bst; four, 9it 61b ; flvo and upwards, 9it 91b ; mares and geldings allowed 81b ; with certain penalties. One mile and a-quatter. 244 nominations. Ayrshire won L 8,675 in stakes last year, carrying off the Riddlesworth Stakes, of 400 sovs, at Newmarket Craven ; Two Thousand Guineas Stakes, of 3,550 sovs; Derby Stakes, of 3,675 sovs ; and Boscawen Stakes, of 600 sovs, at Newmarket First October. He started first favorite in a field of sixteen for the St. Leger, but could only finish sixth behind Seabreeze, Chillington, Zanzibar, and others, He also went down before Seabreeze in the Lancashire Plate, of 10,222 sovs, but ran her to three-quarters of a length in a field of twenty-four. Ayrshire's principal engagements this season are in the Sandown Eclipse Stakes (of 11,100 sovs, to be run in July) and in the Champion Stakes (of 1,000 sovs) at Newmarket Second October.
Seabreeze won no less than L 20,144 in stakes last season, and was never beaten during the year. Her victories were in the Oaks Stakes, of 2,950 sovs ; Coronation Stakes, of 2,200, at Ascot; St. Leger, of 4,350 sovs; Lancashire Plate, of 10,222 sovs; and Newmarket Oaks, of 422 sovs. Her principal engagements this season are in the Eclipse Stakes (of 11,100 sovs) and the Lancashire Plate (of 12,000 sovs), Melanion ran only once last year, when unplaced in the Lancashire Plate, of 10,222 sovs, won by Seabreeze, with Ayrshire second. Melanion is engaged in the Derby, St. Leger, Epsom Grand Prize, Eclipse Stakes (of 11,100 sova), and Lancashire Plate (of 12,000 sovs).
