VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

On Saturday, 30th ult,, tho Engineers fired the final competition for prizes presented by Engineer J. J. Salmon and Messrs Thomson, Bridger, and Co. Stokeß, jun. ..45 In the Government prize list, published some weeks back, the Engineers were not mentioned ; but as it has been shown that they were ontitled to a prize of LB, that amount has been paid to the corps. The Dunedin Highland Rifles, on Saturday, fired the final competition for Captain Gunn's medal and prizes presented by Lieutenants Henderson and M'Pherson. As will be seen from the following list Privato Hanna takes first prize (gold medal), with 110 points; Private M'Beath second prize (silver medal), with 104 points; Sergeant M'Kinlay third prize, with 100 points ; Private Geddes fourth prize, with 99 points; and Private Harrison fifth prizo, with 97 points. Tho half-yearly competition for L Battery's belt and medals was commenced on Saturday last at tho range, Goat Island. Tho weather was all that could be desired, though during the early part of the afternoon the light was somewhat puzzling. The number of competitors was very gratifying, being considerably more than at any contest during the past three years.
