MUNICIPAL.

Maori Hill.—Mr D. Brent was installed as mayor at the statutory meeting held last evening, which was attended also by Crs Harlow, Aitken. Long, Lawson, Thomson, and Scott.—At the ordinary meeting of the Council intimation was received that Cr Hitchcock resigned as councillor for South Ward, as he had removed to Wellington. It was resolved—" That the resignation of Cr Hitchcock be accepted with regret, and that the Council tender him their thanks for the efficient and zealous manner in which he has for so lon« a time performed his duties as councillor."—Messrs J. A. Wilson and J. Waldie were granted renewals of slaughtering licenses.— Jrfr A. Bathgate, secretary of the Dunedin and Suburban Reserves Conservation Society, wrote asking the Council to take such measures as they deemed most effectivo to protect the native vegetation growing on all lands under their control. It was resolved that the police be instructed to take action against anyone damaging the vegetation on the lands referred to by Mr Bathgate.—lt was decided that the joints in the boulder water channels be cleared from earthy matter and refilled witii sand and tar.—The Inspector of Nuisances reported that the dairying and slaughtering premises in the borough were in a satisfactory condition.—lt was resolved to accept E. M'Ewan's tender for channelling iu Well and Water streets.—The Finance Committee reported that there was a debit balance at the bank of T -IS 33 3d, and recommended, tnat accounts amounting to L 53 17s 6.1 he passed for payment.
