THE WRECK OF THE HAWEA.

NEW PLYMOUTH, June 30, The survey of the harbor yesterday was made by Diver Bell, under the supervision of the Collector of Customs; and Messrs J. C. George, R. Hind, Captain Holford, and others were off in boats. Some distance on each aide of the beacon line was thoroughly walked by the diver, in depths of water ranging from 19ft to 23ft, but not a rock could he find. He states that the bottom was uniformly level, devoid of all ridges and rocks, and that although he pierced the sand 3ft in places, he could find no rocky bottom. The steamer is breaking up so quickly in smooth water as to suggest that there was something wrong with the vessel, or she never would have gone to pieces in the manner she has. The fact that part of the deck and much of the woodwork and floatable cargo have been found all along the coast to the south as far as Opunake shows that there is an outward current in that direction.
