FOOTBALL.
A special meeting of the Pirates Football Club was held yesterday evening in the City Hotel. There was a large attendance of members, and Mr E. R. Bowler was voted to the chair. After Mr Drabble, captain of the club, had explained the reasons for the resignation of himself and colleagues of the Match Committee, it was resolved on the motion of Mr M'lndoe, seconded by Mi Russell—" That the club accept their resignation, with an expression of approval of the services of the retiring Committee and of the motives which had led to their resignation." Considerable discussion then ensued, and it was ultimately resolved that it would be beneficial to the general interests of players if two at least of the new Committee should be non-playing members. To fall in with this idea, and owing to his business engagements necessitating his presence at Port Chalmers during the day, Mr J. H. Morvis declined nomination on the new Match Committee. After ballot Messrs Drabble, Fraser, and Bowler were duly elected to fill the vacancy. A meeting was held in the Council Chambers, Roslyn, last night to arrange for the formation of a football club for the Mornington, Roslyn, Maori Hill, and Kaikorai districts. Mr James Hunter having explained the progress of Association football in Dunedin, and the prospects of the proposed club, it was decided to form a club under the name of the Wakari Association Football Club, to play on the ground formerly used by the United Rugby Club. The annual subscription was fixed at ss, and it was decided to adopt navy blue jersey, knickers, and socks as the club's color. Mr G. Pollock was elected captain, Mr D. M'Millau deputy-captain, Mr G. M'Millan treasurer, and Mr R. Gardiner (Colonial Bank) secretary. Seventen members joined, and the secretary was instructed to challenge the Northern Club to play a match at Kaikorai on Saturday, 7th July.
