SPORTING INTELLIGENCE.
At the Onehunga races, on Saturday, Wideawake won the Hurdles, Peter Osbeck the Steeplechase, and Capella the Winter Handicap, with Formo second, and Miss Alice third.
Five rounds were fought between Murphy and Molloy at the Princess's Theatre on Saturday, the former winning. Inspector Weldon examined the gloves before the fight, and saw no reason to object to them. The most closely-contested game of lacrosse of the season was played by the members of the Dunedin Club at the Oval on Saturday afternoon between teams under the captaincy of H. Wilson and E. Trythal'. In the first spell the play was so even and the defence of the respective goals so good that only one goal was thrown. The second spell was rather faster than the first, with better results on both sides. Lees and O'Meara were most conspicuous by their pretty play and good running. Mitchell apd Brent, at firat home for either side, were really brilliant—catching, dodging, and throwing with great judgment; and on them mainly depended the winning of the goals. Holmes, Williams, and Brown, on the defence for Trythall's side, all played a'good game. For Wilson's side, Stilling, Ewing, and Lees were equally good. The match resulted in a win for Trythall's side by three goals (all got by Mitchell) to two for Wilson s side, both thrown by Brent,
