A four-roomed house, owned and occupied hy Mr J. Jennings, contractor, situated at the corner of Argyle and Braemar streets, South Dunedin, was destroyed by fire at 4 a.m. yesterday. Mr Jennings was awakened by one of his children in the back i-oom crying out, and had great difficulty in getting his family out safely. It is conjectured that the tire was caused by sparks from the smoking embers of a fire left in the Icitahen grate. The South Dunedin Fire Brigade and tho Salvage Corps prevented the fire from spreading to the adjoining pro perty. The house was insured for LIOO (in the name of tho Standard Investment Company) in the Standard office, and the furniture (including piano) was insured in the Equitable for Ll2O. NEVV PLYMOUTH, June 18.
A house belonging to Mr Mathcw Hill, at Bell Block, was burned down on Sunday morning. Mrs Hill had only time to save eome bedclothes and her boy. The house was insured for LSO.
