DR MACGREGOR'S REPLY TO DR SALMOND.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—Your correspondent " Only a Layman " should have delayed his contributions to theological literature till he had mastered the ninth commandment and was prepared to show some regard for it. I have read both ' The Reign of Grace' and «The Day of Salvation,' and have no hesitation in saying that this "Layman's" representations of the teaching of the one and of the other are far from being in accordance with fact. His assaults upon the Calvinistic theology are as unreasonable and harmless as were those of the butting ram upon the wooden man. (See ' Day of Salvation,' page 40.) He would do well to "read, learn, and inwardly digest" that butting ram story, and save his poor brains for more useful service.—l am, etc., Veritas. Dunedin, May 31. A COMPLAINT. TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—l would call the attention of the Council to the disgraceful state of the street between the railway crossing and Cargill road. As a storekeeper, 1 can say it has a bad effect on business, as people will not cross when they have to walk through such a depth of mud as at present exists. Trusting the councillor representing this ward will wake up and do his duty.—l am, etc., Alpha. Kensington, May 31.
