The amount of revenue collected at the Customhouse on goods cleared yesterday for consumption was L 4.436 Bslod. STOCK AND STATION REPORT. Mr Donald Stronach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports for the week ended May 16 as follows : Store Cattle.—A few of these change hands, but the market is not particularly lively. There are not very many buyers, and only those who have been fortunate enough in raising a turnip crop are now operating. Store Sheep.-There is still some inquiry for merincoi for restocking, by purchasers of some of the back country tun», lately taken up; but owing to the want of supplies, very little business is passing. Young sheep, both merino and cross-bred, are not easily picked up now. Small lots of aged morinoes ere occasionally disposed of for boiling down, but even the number of these offering is limited. . Wool.—Recent Press cablegrams reporting the opening of the Antwerp wool sales ate of a very satisfactory tenor, and are as follows;—" The Antwerp wool auctions opened yesterday (9th inst.) with great animation. The price? show an advance of fnllyljd per lb on the closing of sales in January.” This augurs well for the opening of the third series in London on the 10th June. Looa'ly there is very little passing beyond the disposal of the odd lots coming to band from time to time, which, when

offered, elicit pood competition at the hands of the local buyers. Follmongors are also keen oompoutoi 8 for all lota suitable to their requirements. On Monday wo offered the following lota, which brought very fait prices, quality considered W. and Sons, 1 bole greasy liecco, 7Jd ; do, Xdo do do, (id ; do, 1 doi do, merino, 7d ; do, 1 do do, first pieces, f'Jd ; do, 2 do do, second places, 4d; do, X do do, locks, SJd ; N, 1 do do, cross-bred, BJd ; FI. On Monday at our regular weekly auction we submitted a very full catalogue, representing a variety of sorts to a large attendance of buyora, who competed triskly for a 1! desenp* tions, green crc-ss-breds in particular coming in for the mitt attention and realising prices in advance cf any obtained up to the present. Dry skins were also in good dcniuid, and fet'hing satisfactory prices. Babbitskins —Wo are in receipt of the folmwing cablegram from our London office, dated 11th inst. : —“ For superior skins the market is flat, while for ordinary sorts it is firmer. There arc not very many c (Taring in the local market yet, hut for the few that come to hand there is a very good demand. All offering in the meantime at auction are spiritedly competed for, and holders of summer and autumn skins should not delay in forwarding their collections while the Homo market for those sorts continues so firm. Wo quote suckers, Id to 2d; inferior and mixed, 3d to 5d ; summer, Cd to Sd ; autumn, 9d tola perlh.” Hides.—The market continues steady, and a good demand for all coming forward, the supply being barely sufficient for requirements. Jjate rates are firm and readily obtained, but th-re is no apparent advance. Wo quote heavy weights, 3Jd to 4ji ; exceptionally good, 4Jd ; medium., 2f 1 to 3]l ; light, 2}d to 2gd; inferior and bulls’, l}tl to 2d per lb. Tallow. -The Home market continues fairly steady, more especially as regards the lower and ordinary qualities, hut we regret to notice that beet mutton is in less demand. Wo arc in receipt of the following cablegram from our London cilice, dated XXth inst. : “ Inferior mutton is in demand, hut medium to fine is neglected. Good mutton is worth 255, and good beef 23 iGI per cwt.” Locally a brisk demand continues to bo experienced, almost entirely for iosal requirements. Manufacturers find it difficult to kcepup stocks Prime mutton, however, but little if_ any advance ; while inferior and medium realises higher price”. Wo quote prime mutton, X9s to 20s; medium to good, Id to XBs; inferior, X3s to 35s OX ; rough fat —inferior 7s Cd to 8s Cd, medium to good 9s to XOs Cd ; best mnltcn o>ul, XXs to 13s per cwt. Grain.—Wheat: Only a limited business has transpired during the past week. Growers prefer storing rather than accept lowo- prices ; in consequence the market is exceedingly quiet, but without any alteration in quotations. A very considerable quantity of the Southern growth is quite unfit for milling in its present condition ; only fit for feeding nr to be immediately kiln-dried, which is a somewhat expensive process. More favorable accounts of tho Homo and American markets are to hand, and if only suitable facilities for shipment were secured the prospect might be a little more hopeful for holders of prime quality. Wo quote prime milling velvet and Tuscan, :U Xd to 3s 3d ; medium, nominal, 2s Cd to 2s XOd ; inferior ard soft, Xs Cd to 2s 4d (ex store, sacks weighed in), terms.—Oats ; A very fair demand still exists, although not quite so strong du-ing the last day or two owing to reports that tho Australian markets are duller and prices receding, also that freights were to bo raised. Both combined haa’e created less desire to operate so freely, or at tho samo prices, especially with respect to medium descriptions. At the same 'imn all sorts are saleable. Wo quote ns follows For prime milling, bright, Xs Sijd to Is Od ; for two or thro- cxcootionally good lots avc scoured a shade more ; good-colored short Tartarians ami Sparrnwhills, Xs 8d to Is BJd ; medium, Is OJd to IsTJd; Danish, Xs CJd (o Is 7Jd ; inferior, Is 3d to Is fid (ex store, sacks weighed in), net cash.—Barley : There are hardly any good samples offering, while inferior and discolored are coming to hand more froidv. Brewers arc careless about touching these, which arc chiefly diapered of for milling. Inferior is sal- ahie for feeding, but prices are loav. We quote pri no malting, 4s 3d to 4s (id ; medium, 3s 91 to 4s; milling, 3s Cd to 3s 9i; feed, Is 01 to 2a Cd (ex store, sacks per agreement) terms. Grass Seeds.—Market dull ; quotations nominal. We sold du-ing the week 90,000 bushels of all sorts. MINING NOTES.
