LAND BOARD.

♦ The weekly meeting of the Land Board was held to-day ; present—The Chief Commissioner, Messrs Clark, Dallas, and Logan. Mr Robert Chalmers asked for the grazing right over section 1, block 10, Kuriwao, on condition that he keeps down the rabbits thereon.—Declined. The Tapanui County Council wrote suggesting that the remainder of the Bush Reserve be thrown open for settlement on deferred payments. —To forward sketch of land, with a view of having a report on the matter. Mr J. Hickson, for Mr T. O'Brien, asked permission to purchase sixty acres of land in block 10, Naseby, portion of land reserved for settlement on Run 225.—Declined, the land being about to be surveyed. Mr Patrick Morresey applied for right to graze stock on section 2Sa, block 2, Tiger Hill, on condition of his keeping down the rabbits thereon.—Referred to the Chief Commissioner.

Mr C. Ross applied for fifty acres of bush land in block 4, Catlins, on deferred payment. —Mr YV. 1). Smith opposed the application on behalf ot the owner of land adjoining, who anticipated that the applicant would make a road through his land to the land applied for.—The Board decided that they saw no ground for objection. The Lawrence Warden wrote stating that he thought the Board should not grant the application of Mr John Grant to purchase three acres, being section 31, block 33, Havelock, as auriferous claims are being worked in the vicinity.—Application declined accordingly.

The Lawrence Warden wrote that lie had no objection to o/T'or against the granting of an application by Mr B. Hart to purchase section 30, block 10, Tuapeka East.—Application approved. Inspector Mills wrote asking that the Stock Department might have the use of sections 11 and 112, block 20, Lawrence, for a ferret depot, and the sections should therefore he withheld from sale.—Referred to Chief Sheep Inspector. The Nascby District Land Oliiocr wrote stating that Mrs Bradley was willing to purchase her residence area at LlO per acre. —Survey fee to be deposited before survey is effected.

Mr T. O'Connor asked that the proclamation setting apart section 59, block (j, Clarendon, be revoked, and the land notified under the Land Act of 1887.—Government to be recommended accordingly. Mr Ernest Davis applied to purchase section 18, block 5, Clarendon, rural land, on deferred payments.—License to issue. Mr J. Weir and Mr J. Smith applied to surrender perpetual leases over sections 3, 5, and 11, block 9, Maniototo.—Surrender to be accepted on payment of arrears. Mr Joseph Hewson asked that 100 acres of land at the back of sections G and 7, block 3, Catlins, be offered as rural laud on deferred payments.—On estimated cost of survey being deposited, tho land to be recommended to Government for classification and notification.

Mr D. M'Lean applied for a transfer of the lease of the small grazing run, being section 2, block 11, and section 21, block 3, Gimmerburn, to J. S. Fitzpatriek. Approved. Mr A. Allison applied to complete his property at Glenomaru by purchasing twenty acres of rural land in section 33, block 10.—Approved, subject to survey fees being lodged. Mr J. F. M. Fraser, for Mr R. Muir, applied for a provisional license to raise lignite ou section 3, block 4, Kurow.— On the licensee paying up his rent, the Chief Commissioner to arrange for his being allowed to occupy the land on the usual conditions as to destroying rabbita.

Mr Dalton asked the Board to revoke their decision forfeiting his deferred-payment license for section 2, block 15, Crookston, and offered to pay part of the arrears due by him. Resolved that under the circumstances of the case that the resolution be rescinded on the understanding that the applicant pay up the portion of arrears mentioned.
