TRIAL MATCH. Another trial match was played on the Caledonian Ground, and, considering the coll weather, tho attendance waa very satisfactory. The teams wcro constituted as follow : Blubs.—Full-back—Austin; thrcc-nuaUer baiksFirodriek, Down.B, Noel; half-backs—Thomson and K:ot?h; forwards-Beck, Gibson, Hunter, A. W. Morris M'Farl-me, Martin, Montgomery, Morrison (captain), aod Wales. Colors. Full-back—Thomas (Oimaru); three(('tarter backs—Dee, Lovegrove, VV. Thomson ; halfbacks Croxford, Simpson ; forwards Douslas, Menzics, Fache, Isaacs M'Kay, Sonnta:-, Tunibull, j Torrance, Tresoder (captain), and Wright. I Mcssm Louden and M, Ross umpired, with Mr W. Mills as referee. From the outset it soon became apparent that the Blues were too strong for their opponents. J-'arly in the spell Thomson and Noel rushed the ball down tho ground and Macfarlano got in. Tho try was resultle.-s. The play was continued in the Colors' twenty five, and the bill being obtained by Kccgh was prettily passed to Downcs, who, though surrounded by his opponents, dropped a beautiful goal amid loud cheers In tha second spell Keogli, as tho remit of a good run, get over the line and g'ounded the ball near the fhg. Thomson was cntilisted with the try, which fell considerably short. After tho kick-off the Colors had a good opening, but through want of combination failed to take advantage of it. Gibson then relieved his s-ide, and, owing to his exertion?, Thomson was enabled to touch down at the back of tho goal posts. Thomson himself took tho try, and only ju.,t succeeded in getting a g-'al. The paving was a decided improvement on that (hown on picvi.-nn Saturdays, it generally being clean and well-timed.
