YESTERDAY'S CABLES.

Baron de Worms has entertained the Agents-General at a banquet Lord Knutsford presented the Prince of Wales, on the occasion of his silver wedding, with the collections received from thirty-two of the smaller colonies. Two thousand emigrants embarked at Liverpool yesterday for Canada. The Democrats have postponed their Fund Bill, and the deadlock has ended after eight days' continuous sitting. The Emperor Frederick suffers a good deal at night, and his physical condition is less satisfactory. The weekly returns of the Bank of England show the total reserve in notes and bullion to be L 13,200,000, and the proportion of reserve to liabilities 39 per cent. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,300,000 quarter*, and for the Continent 350,000 quarters, An off-coast cargo of wheat has been sold at 33s 7£d. Consols are at lOlf. Martell's and Hennessy's brandies are quoted at 17s. The amount of Mr Goschen's conversion scheme is L 140,000,000. In his speech at the National Liberal Club, Mr Gladstone stated that the Liberals were gaining strength to a large degree, and he predicted an early settlement of the Irish question. He mentioned that the party with which he was connected had decided to use all endeavors to prevent the imposition of the petty and vexatious taxation on horses and wheel traffic as proposed in the Budget. Sir Graham Berry, discussing the recent despatch of Lord Knutsford, considers it unfortunate diplomacy, as he bracketed the New Hebrides and recidiviste questions, whereas the colonies had solid reasons for defending each question separately. He thinks that unless the matter is promptly settled it will lead to serious difficulty in future. He rejoices at the action of the Marquis of Salisbury, who was continually bringing the question under the notice of the French Government. The Italians troops are re-embarking at Massowah.
