♦ A THEATRICAL DISPUTE. WELLINGTON, Apkil 14. In the Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday a case was heard in which E. T. Gillon claimed LlO 108 damages from Mr \V. Murphy, of the Pinafore Opera Company at Dunedin, for non-return of the manuscript libretto of ' Les Cloches de Corneville.' Mr Bunny, who appeared for plaintiff, stated that the manuscript had been returned by post yesterday, but in a very dilapidated condition. Repeated applications had been made to return it before the proceedings were taken. That morning a telegraphic money-order for lis (the costs of the summons) had been received just before the Court met. The plaintiff had been put to considerable expense and trouble to obtain his own property, and the full fees due for the performance were not yet paid, but another action was being taken in regard to them. The manuscript having been returned, although dilapidated, the plaintiff only claimed nominal damages and full costs of Court. After consideration the Magistrate this morning gavo judgment for 10s, with costs including counsel's fee. Proceedings are being instituted against the members of the company for the performances for which the fees have not been paid. ESCAPE FROM PRISON. CHRISTCHURCH, April 14. Charles Sullivan, who is undergoing a sentence of twelve years' hard labor, and who was removed from Lyttelton Gaol to Christuhurch Hospital in order that he might undergo treatment for weak eyesight, made his escape from the latter institution this morning.- Sullivan waß convicted in Invercargill in 1883 of rape, and was serving his sentence in Lyttelton Gaol. He was first admitted to the hospital about nine months ago, but as he left the grounds one evening and was absent about two hours he was removed to Lyttelton. At the end of December last he was readmitted to the hospital. Sullivan made his escape from the building this morning through a back window. lie took neither coat nor hat, and had on a pair of slippers. He is forty-five years of age, oft lOin in height, of medium build, weak oyes, fair complexion, and clean shaved with the exception of a moustache, which is turning grey, 1
