Maori Hill.—An ordinary meeting on Wednesday was attended by the Mayor, Cra Harlow, Darling, Hitchcock, Rossbotham, and Aaskoy. Mr W. Daley, manager of the City of Dunedin Suburban Gas Company, intimated that he was prepared to arrange for a. supply to th' 6 high levels, and the matter Was referred, to the Mayor, and Crs 6. 8. Smith and Darling to report.—The Diimtdtn City Council wrote saying that they would not take any action with regard to the repairing of the footpath crossing the Town Belt from Duke street.—The Treasury intimated that LI 19 OsOd had been remitted to the credit of the council in payment of subsidy.—lt was resolved thataprogress paymentof LIS be paid to MrM'Kenzie.the contractor for the Leith road contract; and the matter of supplying seventy yards or eighty yards of metal for the Leith road was left to the inspector, with power to act.—The Finance Committee reported that the bank balance ftt present was LC4 lis Bd, and recommended that accounts amounting to L 49 Os lOd be passed for payment. — The Works Committee recommended that in estimating the expenditure for the next financial year the following works be taken into consideration :—North Ward : That tenders bo rolled for the general surface work of the ward over the same roads as now, with tht addition of the road through section 24, block S, North Harbor and and Blueskin (on condition that sledging on tho road is discontinued), for six months, and for the supply of 100 yards of metal; that the Leith Ward from the boundary of East Wurd to near Davidson's house be straightened, graded, formed, and metalled, and all stumps, large stones, and scrub cleared off; that the road into the ford opposite Glenleith be filled up with boulders and other suitable material; that the hollow at Booth's corner be filled up and metalled; that the outer edge of the road from Booth's corner to Nicol's Creek bridge be raised ; and that the road between the school and Nicol's Creek bridge be straightened ; that the bush, etc., be cleared off the bank on the innei side of the road ; that a new bridge be built to replace the present Nicol's Creek bridge ; that the large stones in the road be blasted, and the smaller ones picked out and broken; that a stone protection wall be built near Neil's Point; that the road be metalled a chain above and below M'Millan's bridge the width of the formation; that providing Messrs Carlton, Hooper, and Hewitt will each contribute Lo the council should contribute another L 5 towards metal for the road through Bection 24, block 8, North Harbor and Blueskin. East Ward: That the Leith road from Harbor's bridge to Crowhurst's bridge be graded, reformed 20ft wide, and metalled 14ft wide; that the south end of the new metalled part opposite Mr Hogg's be moved about 7ft further from the stream and the hollow filled up ; that Woodhaugh street be either kerbed with wood or channelled and kerbed with asphalt and about eighty yards of screenings spread on the paths; that about ,300 yards of maintenance metal be provided for the roads between the Town Belt and Harbor's bridge ; that a footpath be formed between Skey's and Crowhurst's bridge on the west side. South Ward: Asphalting 190 yds (more or less) of the water channel in Wells street; the improvement of the drainage in Water street by asphalting drain and the removal of the bank on the north side of Henry street and the putting back of the water channel to boundaries ; the laying of a stone kerbing on the south side of High street from store to the corner of Henry street, and the relaying of the channel; stonebreaking on the east side of Driver's road, and the formation of water channel near Brindley's ; the lowering of the footpath on the western side of Falkirk road where required.—lt was resolved that a separate ward rate of 3d in the £ be levied on all rateable property in North Ward for the year ending 31st March, 1888, such rate to be payable on 31st March, ISBB.
