VOLUNTEER INTELLIGENCE.

The annual match between the members and ex-members of the B Battery took place on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a win for the ex-members by 25 points. The conditions were; Eleven men a-side, the lowest scorer on each side to be counted out; ranges, 200, 300, and 500 yards; seven shots at each range. The total scores of the ex-members (eleven men) were 619, members 611; majority for ex-members, 8 points. But, on taking off the eleventh men, the members found that they were 25 points to the bad. The majority of the ex-members used the medium rifle, while the members, with one exception, used the carbine. The result of the match shows clearly that the medium is far superior to the carbine at the longer ranges, as the members had a lead of 15 points on leaving the 200 yds range.
