THE MINISTER FOR WORKS’ VISIT.

The Hon, E. Mitchelson, Minister for Public Works, arrived in Dunedin from Invercargill on Saturday night. This forenoon the hon. gentleman, accompanied by the Hon. George M'Lean, Mr Valentine, M.H.R., Mr Hannay (acting-manager for railways), and Mr Ussher (district engineer), went ten miles up the Otago Central Railway-line and inspected the Wingatui Viaduct. It is unlikely that the line will be opened till it is completed as far as Sutton.

Mr Mitchelson, who is also Native Minis; ter, leaves for Wellington to-morrow morning in order to be present at the opening qf the Hon. Major Ropata’s house at the end of the week. A large Native gathering is expected on the occasion; probably some four or five thousand persons will be present.
