The ship had a large and miscellaneous cargo, and so far aa can be ascertained the insurances on it are :—Victoria, L 2.630 : National, L 2.000; Colonial, L 1,145; South British, L 950 ; New Zealand, L 924 ; Guardian, L 55; Union, L 1.817. The Thames and Mersey Company are also losers, but the amount iB unknown. The insurances on the ship are unknown, but she is valued at L 12.000. The officers are : Captain Culbert, W. Mrs Foster, a passenger, was taken from the water greatly exhausted, and the captain was also injured in the attempt to gain the shore. Both are, however, progressing favorably. The vessel is almost high and dry, but very little can be known as to her safety until the weather moderates. At present she is nuking no water. The special train from Waikanae returned to Wellington at 10.30, but none of the passengers or crew went to town, being too much fatigued to travel.
